General Fair Rules and Regulations

The General Rules and Regulations of the Fair will govern the overall operation of the fair. Each department will have specific rules outlined in their division catalog. Be sure to read the rules and regulations before entering or competing in any division and/or department.

• Division I: Competition is limited to residents of North Carolina.

• Make your entries early! The right is reserved to reject entries received after all available space is taken.

• Online Entries Only!! Be sure to fill in the online form completely and accurately.

• All entries should be in the name of the entrant, not the parent or guardian.
• Include the complete rural route number, post office box number, or city street address, zip code, and telephone number, including area code.

• NC Substitute W-9 Form - All highlighted areas of the NC Substitute W-9 must be complete.

• A new NC Substitute W-9 form must be completed annually.
• The Social Security number must be that of the entrant not the parent or guardian.

• If premiums are to be paid to a school or club, please complete the NC Substitute W-9 with the organization’s information.
• Premiums will not be paid to exhibitors who choose not to disclose their full Social Security Number or Federal ID on the NC Substitute W-9 form at the time of registration.

• Awards in any department will be given only if merited.

• If an entry is misrepresented or the exhibitor misrepresents his/her status, the entry will be disqualified.

• All exhibits will be under the supervision and care of the NC Mountain State Fair.

• Proper attention will be given to prevent theft or damage, but we assume no responsibility for damage or loss of personal property of the exhibitors.

• Premium checks will be issued from Raleigh. Please Allow up to 10 weeks for premium checks to be processed.

• NO PREMIUMS WILL BE RELEASED WITHOUT A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER OR TAX ID NUMBER PLACED ON NC SUBSTITUTE W-9 FORM. IF THE NUMBER LISTED ON THE ENTRY FORM DOES NOT MATCH THE NAME ON THE ENTRY FORM WHEN GIVEN TO THE IRS, YOU COULD BE SUBJECT TO IRS FINES.
